Hey folks, Harry here with the final late column, I hope, of 2009. This past week involved A LOT of work to nail various things regarding BNAT1138 down. And I was at one point thinking I’d never ever have time to do anything but BNAT – till BNAT, but thankfully the week worked out and I seem to be on track to get completely caught up. This usually happens a couple of times a year, usually during a trip, a film festival or my yearly BNAT breakdown.

It is strange how sometimes you can’t shake a single word from your mind when you see a movie. It is especially ironic, if that single word is actually a part of the title for the film, but I really can’t think of a descriptive word more appropriate for LOVELY BONES, because LOVELY BONES is absolutely lovely.
I know what you’re thinking. How can a film about the rape and murder of a beautiful 14 year old girl be anything other than traumatic, but frankly… the film is lovely.

Emmerich has really got to change his game radically. His announcement on MTV today regarding two additional INDEPENDENCE DAY movies confuses me, cuz with 2012, DAY AFTER TOMORROW and INDEPENDENCE DAY - he has 3 films for his Disaster Trilogy. Aliens, Global Warming and Global Microwaving. Of the three, the film with the absolute best visual effects work, is easily 2012. Easily. The work done to destroy and reform the planet we live on is astonishingly horrifying & beautiful all at once.

Hey folks, Harry here with my chat with Joe Johnston that took place in the Talbot family home. There was a ton of last act spoiler activity going on around us, but the Talbot Manor was exquisite. Very much the home of a hunter, taxidermy abounded. Just loved it. Now - you have to know that this was about two months prior to Joe committing to CAPTAIN AMERICA - so that wasn't even a topic that anyone knew to discuss.

Hey folks, Harry here and I have to say... This was a very interesting process this year. It was rather amazing how many shaved their heads. That wasn't my intention. I was raised by hippies, so the idea of shaving one's head... well, that's astonishingly inconceivable to me. Some people were chosen by their choices of Sid Haig or Walter Murch films. Some via their creative and unusual Masturbation Material. Jeff Mahler's choice of the film AQUAMARINE was quite telling and almost caused his dismissal - but not quite.

Hey folks, Harry here with something a bit out of the ordinary. What you have below isn't a formal interview. Back around the start of the year, I went to London to visit THE WOLFMAN set. It was the last week of shooting principal photography and it had been a long and trouble filled beginning. Mark Romanek, the film's original director had left shortly before photography was to begin. Why'd he leave?

Hosting the IMAX 3D screening of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at our local IMAX last night was bittersweet. Sweet, because we were seeing A CHRISTMAS CAROL before its world premiere in Hollywood tonight... Bitter, because my sister, nephew and wife could not attend. That wasn't at all a distraction during the movie, it was just... as I was leaving the theater with Father Geek - I found myself missing my own larger family.

Hey folks, Harry here and this is something that a BNAT attendee, a long timer... Pam Nail put together to explain BUTT-NUMB-A-THON in its cinematic terms. And it made me a little misty eyed, I have to say - cuz I'm proud of the programming I've done. Whether it be the greatest of modern film to the absolute funkiest of the funky or the shocking horrific realization or the politically incorrect. The in-jokes and personality of the fest. The quirks and my private fetishes...

Hey folks, Harry here with this third installment of my DVD Picks & Peeks for October 2009! We start the list off with the title that will dominate the talkback and end with a great documentary that sadly, too few have seen. As usual the titles and the Images are linkable to Amazon, where you can learn more on the title in question, or go ahead and purchase it and a small portion of the price goes to continue to sponsor this column! Without further babble, let’s get on with it!

Hey folks, Harry here with the most awesome - pretty reliable - rumor of the day. I'm putting this in the caveat as a rumor - as opposed to a rock solid, take it to the bank story. Right now, Martin Campbell is in the process of finalizing the rest of the cast for GREEN LANTERN to surround Ryan Reynolds with. And I'm not sure why, but I've just hit the point where I'm giddy and hopeful about a GREEN LANTERN movie. This story came from someone working on the film.

It's Friday evening. I'm slumped over a speakerphone in my living room, clad in a ratty t-shirt and pajama bottoms, drugged out of my mind, and sucking on a Halls. The phone rings. It's Spike Jonze. Sometime over the next few months, he may very well contract Swine Flu. This will suck, but at least he won't be able to blame it on me.
